Call upon Lord Shiva, Shakti and Jasmine to help fertility

This month, under the new moon energy I  draw the Creation Fertility guidance cards to encourage a positive mindset and support  your fertility and reproductive health.  This month we all upon  Lord Shiva (last time was March 2017 and then again  October 2016), and  Shakti, his feminine counterpart.

Who is Lord Shiva? Wikipedia tells us that Lord Shiva is referred to as “The Auspicious One” and the third god in the Hindu triumvirate.

What is a Triumvirate? The triumvirate consists of three gods. Brahma is the creator of the universe while Vishnu is the preserver of it. Shiva’s role is to destroy the universe in order to re-create it.  Hindus believe his powers of destruction and recreation are used to destroy the illusions and imperfections of this world, paving the way for beneficial change. According to Hindu belief, this destruction is not arbitrary, but constructive – so Lord Shiva is  seen as the source of both good and bad.

Lord Shiva is both destroyer and creator, he is transcendent, limitless, formless, eternal, changing and unchanging all at once!  He is simultaneously able to combine contradictory elements, untamed passion and  extremes in behaviour.  Sometimes he is an ascetic, abstaining from all worldly pleasures, at other times a hedonist.  But it is Shiva’s relationship with his wife, Parvati which brings him into balance. Their union allows him to be an ascetic and a lover, but within the bounds of marriage. He is father to Kartikeya and Ganesha  and he believed to bless everyone with the precious gift of love, a stable family and wonderful children.

So this month we call upon Lord Shiva to help HORMONAL BALANCE,

DETERMINATION to keep going and remain positive 

TRUST that  pregnancy will manifest when the time is right

Why does Lord Shiva look the way he does!

The crescent moon on his head is the symbol of  moon energy and time. The waxing and waning phenomenon of the moon symbolizes the  time cycle through which creation evolves from the beginning to the end (women have a “moon cycle”, thus providing us with  womb bleed, an opportunity  for ovulation,  fertilisation and pregnancy each month).    The wearing of the crescent moon indicates that we can call upon Lord Shiva to help us be aware of our window of opportunity for fertilisation and ask that he controls our mindset – remaining positive at all times.

The Holy river Ganga flows from his head – this represents purity and liberation in the cycle of life and death.  An interesting approach to remaining womb positive.  Each womb bleed represents a new cycle and opportunity to conceive

Third Eye on his forehead. The extra eye represents wisdom and insight and believed to be the source of his untamed energy. So become aware when your energy is high and ovulation likely.

The vibhuti are the three lines drawn horizontally across the forehead in white ash. They represent Shiva’s all-pervading nature, his superhuman power and wealth. They also cover up his powerful third eye!

Snake : He is depicted wearing a snake named Vasuki, coiled around his neck. There are  various legends and theories as to why Shiva wears snakes  but generally snakes evoke fear and danger for many humans (including me!).  By wearing snakes, Shiva portrays he controls sexuality, fear, death, creation and rebirth .  Snakes can be symbols of  the past, present and future – remember Lord Shiva is untouched by time and controls it. From an estoeric perspective snakes represent  alchemy, healing, sexuality, kundalini energy, creativity, change, rebirth and resurrection.

His trident or trishul is his weapon. This trishul has three spikes and the three spikes represent the three gunas such as sattva, rajas and tamas. Sattva is the basis of creation while rajas stands for continuity and tamas is the base of destruction.

The damru – Lord Shiva’s musical instrument  is a small drum called a damru and is tied to his trishul. Lord Shiva uses this to beat the tune  to his cosmic dance of creation and destruction, creating a cosmic rhythm which  influences the ebb, timing, flow and balance of universal energy.

Lord Shiva can be portrayed as  Ardanarishvara, a half male (Lord Shiva) half female counterpart (Shakti or Uma, Parvati and Sati). The half-male and half-female combination is the symbol for the unity of opposites in the world. Male is seen as a passive force while the female is the active force. It depicts that God is neither man nor woman but is both.The left side of Shiva is always female because it is on the left side where the heart resides. The heart represents intuition, creativity, gentleness and love whilst the right (male) represents the brain, logic and power. Sitting or lying quietly simply hold the shiva lingams in each hand.  As you hold them, mindfully feel their energy and connect with an aspect of Lord Shiva which you feel can support you at this time.  Let the  energy vibration from the stones release inner tension and help balance hormones to support your fertility journey.

Shakti energy:

Shakti is the divine feminine energy – much like the beautiful flower jasmine- she embodies the active feminine energy of Shiva and literally means  “empowerment”. It is a Hindu-based feminine cosmic energy force representing the Divine Feminine and creative power that we each hold within us and is particularly associated with the sacral chakra and womb area.  Not only is Shakti energy responsible for creation, this energy is also the agent for liberation, change and connects with kundalini energy.  Lord Shiva’s female consort (known as Uma, Sati, Parvati, Durga and Kali)  is sometimes paired with Shakti.

So what is Shakti?  Shakti is the Hindu term for the Feminine Principle of Life Force; the Mother of Form.  Creation Fertility artist, Sam Foreman, has interpreted her energy in the illustration as warm, sexy and loving!  Shakti energy is an energetic awareness of love. Shakti becomes everything – she is the accepting, non judgmental, pure, perfect mother, lover and partner.  The true essence of Shakti balances both the dark and the light which flows within us all (i.e. our positive state and our negative state).
