Holistics

It is thought that illness occurs when 'energy channels' in the body are blocked, causing damage to one area of another. Holistic body treatments encourage the body and mind to re-balance allowing energy to flow freely again and natural healing to take place.

Hopi Ear Candling (also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy)

A relaxing treatment, safe for children, adults and during pregnancy. It is believed to originate from a Native American Indian tribe called the Hopis (meaning ‘peaceful people’). Hopi ear candles are used to support imbalances within the ear, nose, throat and chest areas including build up of wax, ringing in the ears, hearing difficulties and sinus problems as well as colds, ‘flu, sore throats, headaches and migraines. The ear candle is not actually a candle but a cotton tube impregnated with beeswax, sage, St John’s Wort, chamomile, honey and beta-carotene. It is lit and the non-burning end is placed gently into the outer ear passage. The candle generates a gentle heat that produces a light suction action and draws impurities gently to the surface, where they can be removed. Most deposits evaporate and are carried away through the candle ‘chimney’, but some are found in the condensed candle wax residue. A lymphatic facial massage completes the treatment to encourage further drainage.

Lymphatic Massage ("LM")

The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical for health. It drains fluids, detoxifies and regenerates tissues, filters out toxins and foreign substances, supports hormone function and helps to maintain a healthy immune system . LM uses specific but subtle hand and finger techniques to manually manoeuvre lymph and interstitial fluid to stimulate functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. Lymphatic massage may be used to help:

* Balance hormones and regulate the monthly cycle
* Boost the immune system whilst detoxifying, thereby helping to relieve chronic and sub-actute inflammations including post-surgery, after a miscarriage, any digestive or respiratory disorder including sinusitis
* Relieve fluid retention in arms, hands, legs and ankles such as during pregnancy, cellulitis; lymphoedema and oedema
* Reduces symptoms associated with PMS, painful breasts and stretch marks
* Its anti-spasmodic actions helps to relieve digestion and gastro-intestinal disorders
* Aids towards the reduction of symptoms associated with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
* Promotes deep relaxation, thus aiding insomnia and other stress-related symptoms

Courses of MLD treatments are always recommended to achieve maximum benefit (the number of treatments vary dependant on specific needs). Whilst this form of treatment is extremely gentle it is very powerful and a initial treatment should only be for 30 minutes.

Reflexology

Reflexology is said to have originated in China some 5000 years ago, when pressure therapy where used to correct energy fields in the body. It was not until around 1913 that the therapy was introduced to the west by Dr William Fitzgerald. It works on the principle that points in the hands and feet correspond to every part of the body. By working on these "reflexes" blockages in the energy pathways are cleared, aiding the body to heal itself. Each treatment lasts approximately 1 hour and is completed with a relaxing foot massage.
Reflexology is deeply relaxing and numerous disorders seem to respond well to it. These disorders include migraine, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances, breathing difficulties, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems, tension and stress. Reflexology treatments may be used to suport conception and during pregnancy to help ease uncomfortable symptoms through each trimester. Reflexology prepares the body for birth and can help with pain relief. It is very successful in the treatment of a wide variety of pregnancy conditions, including turning breech babies and induction of labour. During labour itself, it can be used for relaxation and pain relief. Post-natally, it is excellent for breastfeeding problems such as maintaining or increasing milk supply, postnatal depression and general relaxation.

* Reduces stress by encouraging deep relaxation
* Improves circulation
* Assists detoxification of the body
* Re-energises
* Calms, soothes and nurtures
* Can be used as an aid to conception
* Supports changes in hormone status during pregnancy
* Aid to pregnancy labour and post partum
